What compact do you have Janet? I'm after a small pocket sized one but so many around and not had much time of late to do any research. However, preferably would like one with a viewfinder and when I've played with one or two of these, can't seem to get the hang of just holding it and looking at the back of the screen lol

It's a Samsung S850. Dirt cheap, but really performs very well.

I really can't fault it. I keep it in my handbag or pocket and it gets used virtually every day. It's particularly good in low light, and the ASR is an excellent feature on such a cheap item.

No viewfinder, but when I bought it, I didn't know I needed one!I normally use it just on auto for quick grab shots, but it has full manual control which I really need to get to grips with. I really haven't used it to its full potential, as I bought my DSLR not long after.

Only 8.1 mega pixies, with 5x optical zoom + 5x digital zoom (which I've been advised never to use, so I don't!) The best part for me is the macro facility, which produces cracking sharp shots at a distance of only 1cm...

I paid about £90 for it, (I think it was just before it was discontinued...) but I've just found one one Amazon for less than £50...

I'd be lost without it! It's fabulous in low light, and even does video, which enabled me to capture some once in a lifetime movies as we cruised down the Thames in May. When I was trying to use Olly in low light, it struggled to focus and caused me no end of problems. Solution? Use Sammy!

The big screen is a plus with my poor eyesight, and it's so easy to use...

I'm sure there are better out there, but it was a great introduction to photography for me.
